Health – A matter of choice by Acarya Vimaleshananda Avadhuta

The advancements in medicine and medical technology seems not to keep parallelism with an equal advancement in Health Consciousness. Here we wish to point to the fact that many people are not healthy as they don't take the responsability for it.

Dr Gopal is a naturopath in Guatemala City. He runs the biometric clinic where patients come for restoring their health through natural remedies. He explained that the most difficult task is not the diagnosis or the prescription of the right remedies but the education of the patient that is rather prone not to change those habits who generate the desease.

Many doctors nowadays prescribe a vegetarian diet for ailments like gout or high cholestrol or hypertension. Patients are so smart that even when they become vegetarian they will defeat the doctor advice by eating disproportionate amount of high fat vegetarian food. Fact is that a medical prescription need to accompanied with a change of life style and a commitment for it.

Diabetis is a disease affecting a huge population of patients all over the world. Talking with an Indian doctor in Delhi he assured that without control on diet and physical exercise there is no way to control diabetis of any kind. Only if diet and exercise are followed to a certain extent then remedies are able to act and correct the disfunction.

Dr. Steve Landau is a cardiologist who teach yoga to patients in order to create the conditions for change. He personally do meditation and yoga to keep up with his own health. Doctors job is very stressful one and heart conditions are common among them. Not to talk that many doctors allow themselves to smoke off the hospital grounds with a serious violation of any sane alignment between what they do and what they preach.

There are investigations regarding certain ingredients commonly used in food preparations that are harmful for health. Talking the example of fluoride in toothpaste preparations it has been researched and concluded that fluoride damages the pineal gland. Pineal gland is the highest and most important gland in our body. The fact that it is still not fully understood how it functions should not undermine its value. Looking at the ingredients it is possible to find and select toothpastes that don't have fluoride. Most Indian brands that are based on herbal preparations are without fluoride. It is a matter of choice almost in any country of the world.

Sometimes choice is related to priority. What is more important, the mind or the body? What come first or controls over the other? Physical health can't be at the expenses of mental health. Astma is a common complain that has a strong mental component in most cases. The choice of the right doctor, particularly for children, may result in completely different results. Although we don't question the validity of allopathic medicine it should always be evaluated the possibility of prescribing natural remedies accompanied by a thorough understanding of the case and environmental circumstances. Sometimes a change of place or company is the best and definite remedy.

Company does not refers only to family or friends. It may refer to the general thinking or mental occupation. Once I was feeling very sick and I looked for a doctor. It happened to be an old homeopath practicioner. He looked at me and prescribed with one sentence: "You should talk about God". And that remedy is still working till today at distance of 17 years. I didn't have to pay anything besides the willingness to do it.
