More than 500 women from villages throughout Communse Anse Rouge gathered in the village of La Source Chaude to celebrate women's day with AMURT-Haiti and its affiliated women's organization AMURTEL (together referred to as AMURT/EL).

Every Sunday around 1 p.m., Dr. Steven Landau invites inmates at Wake Correctional Center to his yoga class.

"Learn how to be happy here in the present and even happier when you get out," he says over the loudspeaker.

Louis Allen, a Durham man who is in prison for the third time, walks in.

"At first I was real hesitant because I thought it was a girl thing. And I didn't want that reputation being in the prison system," Allen said.

He has now been practicing yoga for about two years. He is also studying to become a yoga teacher.

He and other inmates say the class offers them a break from the anxiety of prison life.

Emily C. Carr was volunteering in our school AMSAI in Haiti which is directed by
Dada Gopalakrsnananda. The library is physically
one room in our school and although it seems a little thing it might
become a good project as in Haiti as it seems there is no public
library at all.

“Yoga - a way of life” workshop (http://www.rajadhirajayoga.net/funasia-free-yoga-workshop-richardson-tx) was organized at Funasia on Dec. 13. Ananda Marga Yoga Society and Funasia organized a one day free workshop. The workshop covered all the aspects of daily life of spiritual aspirants: Meditation, Asanas, Kiirtan, Song, Dance and Food. The objective of this workshop was to generate awareness about the benefits of practicing yoga in our daily life.

The workshop began with spiritual music with Kamal on guitar and Ashish on the microphone. Then the stage was set for Ananda Marga’s monk Aca'rya Shubhacetana'nanda Avadhuta to start his presentation on “Yoga Anatomy”

GUATEMALA RETREAT

About 20 margiis attended a weekend retreat at Guatemala City. The
program started on Friday, January 9th with evening Dharma Cakra and
dinner. On Saturday there were classes on Microvita by Didi Ananda
Mamata and Spiritual Philosophy by Dada Rainjitananda. The Sunday
morning program started with a 3-hour Akhanda Kiirtan and a class about
PROUT. The participants appreciated very much the class and requested
another seminar only on PROUT philosophy which is being organized for
the last weekend of January. Everyone appreciated the good food
prepared by Didi Ananda Mamata.

Boston Region Ananda Marga Retreat

 

At Earthdance in Plainfield, Massachussets around 70 participants gathered for the fall retreat of Ananda Marga in New York Sector.

The retreat is organized with a spring and fall edition. It runs for a weekend with a very well proven formula that makes every time a success in terms of participation, inspiration, quality of the workshops and, of course, best vegetarian organic food.

 

San Francisco has seen an influx of margiis recently and had the houseblessings to prove it.

Sister Cetana, originally from Taiwan, moved from Boulder, Co. to attend school at the California Institute for Integral Studies in San Francisco, Calif. On Sept. 13 Cetana had a houseblessing performed by Didi Ananda Lalita. It was well-attended.

Sister Radha, from North Carolina also had a houseblessing the same weekend. On Sept. 14, her seven-month anniversary of moving to the Bay Area, she had her houseblessing. Sixteen people and two kids attended the event -- people were crammed into her one-bedroom apartment near Union Square. In addition, Radha started a dharmachakra in San Francisco, by Baba's grace, so the SF margiis don't have to commute to other parts of the Bay Area for their weekly satsaunga.
